Xi Jinping Emphasizes US-China Cooperation: "Bilateral Relations Determine Humanity's Future"
Meeting with US Senate Democratic Leader Schumer and Delegation
Schumer: "China's Development and Prosperity Benefit the United States"
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on the 9th, during a meeting with U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, that "China-U.S. relations are the most important bilateral relationship in the world" and "the future and fate of humanity depend on how China and the United States get along."
According to Bloomberg and other sources, President Xi emphasized this during a meeting with Schumer and his delegation at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing that afternoon. Xi stated, "The common interests between China and the United States are greater than their differences, and each country's success is not a challenge to the other but an opportunity."

He also said, "As two major powers, China and the United States must demonstrate magnanimity, vision, and responsibility, and handle bilateral relations with an attitude responsible to history, their peoples, and the world," emphasizing, "We must promote mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, win-win cooperation, enhance the welfare of both peoples, advance human progress, and contribute to world peace and development."
In response, Senate Majority Leader Schumer said, "The stable development of U.S.-China relations is very important not only to both countries but also to world peace and development," adding, "China's development and prosperity benefit the American people."
Schumer further stated, "The United States does not seek confrontation with China, does not want decoupling from China, and hopes to strengthen dialogue and communication in the spirit of mutual respect." He added, "We look forward to enhancing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and strengthening communication and cooperation on issues such as climate change response and combating drug trafficking."
Moreover, Schumer said, "It is natural for the two great powers to compete in trade, technology, and diplomacy," emphasizing, "We welcome this competition. However, we do not seek conflict. The two countries will build this century together."
Earlier, during a meeting with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, Schumer called for "economic reciprocity" and "equal competition for American companies within China."
However, Schumer expressed dissatisfaction with China's response to the Palestinian armed group Hamas's attack on Israel. He criticized China for urging restraint from both sides rather than condemning Hamas's attack on Israel. Schumer repeatedly urged China to support Israel in front of President Xi and demanded solidarity with the Israeli people.
