Samsung C&T Resort Division Operates 'Vitamin Camp'
Learn Emotion Management Through Breath Control and Diagnosis

Vitamin Camp Expands to B2B Business This Year
Developing Creative Convergence Education for Children

"Emotions are closely related to muscles. When angry, muscle tension increases and heart rate quickens. Breathing is effective in regulating heart rate. It is important to manage emotions through breathing therapy."

This explanation was heard while experiencing a machine that visually displays heart rate flow at the 'Vitamin Camp,' a worker emotion management and enhancement program operated by Samsung C&T Resort Division.

When placing the second finger on a rectangular device about the size of a credit card, as if fingerprinting, a wavy line appeared on the connected laptop screen. Following the instructor's guidance, after breathing in deeply for 5 seconds and exhaling, the line became more stable and the wave width widened. Seeing the heart rate gradually slow down and stabilize with my own eyes made me feel much more at ease.

Checking Emotional States and Healing by Watching Pubao

On the 6th, I visited the Samsung C&T Experience Innovation Academy in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The Experience Innovation Academy was established by Samsung C&T Resort Division in 1994, and in 2014, it introduced the country's first specialized worker emotion management course called Vitamin Camp to strengthen the mental care of service workers.

Vitamin Camp is a program that helps participants train their emotional muscles and enhance emotion management skills through emotional diagnosis, analysis, and various experiential activities such as visiting Everland. It focuses on resilience training (mental strength to overcome various stresses and adversities) to sustain positive emotions and experiences.

At the site that day, before the main program participation, there was an experience with Samsung C&T’s self-developed emotional diagnosis tool (EMS). EMS conducts surveys based on various items and informs participants about their emotional state, causes of stress, and possible solutions.

Afterward, participants could experience the detailed program stages divided into four steps: 'Empathy - Emptying - Filling - Growing.' In the empathy stage, participants wrote down when they felt happy or unhappy at work and shared these with other journalists to understand each other's emotions.

During the emptying stage, participants visited Everland to meet the recently popular panda family 'Pubao.' They also visited the Forest Camp, a forest cultivated by Everland for about half a century. Walking in this well-maintained area, like a luxury resort, breathing in the fresh air seemed to dissolve stress and leave only a calm mind.

Additionally, through the 'Forest Dome' newly built this year at Forest Camp, participants spent about 20 minutes stretching and meditating. The Forest Dome is a dome-shaped facility made with a cypress wood frame and glass walls, offering panoramic views that create a special feeling of being part of nature.

Lee Yuri, Group Leader of Samsung C&T Experience Innovation Academy (Ph.D. in Psychology), explained, "Experiencing things physically or in unique spaces leaves a longer-lasting impression than just listening in a lecture hall." She added, "By providing unique experiences through the distinctive space and infrastructure of Everland, we ensured that this is not just a one-time healing education."

Expanding Camp Scope to B2B Business from This Year

Vitamin Camp is now in its 10th year of operation. Over the years, not only Everland employees but also service workers in finance, hotels, public institutions, and local government call centers have participated, with the total number of graduates exceeding 10,000.

Samsung C&T has expanded the camp participation target to various occupations and industries starting this year. As the importance of emotional management for workers has increased after the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp’s scope has been broadened as a business-to-business (B2B) service. "We plan to develop this program into a vitamin for the entire nation," they stated.

Meanwhile, the company is currently developing 'E-Cube School,' a creative convergence education program for children utilizing the infrastructure of Everland and Forest Camp. In addition to animal and plant academies, the curriculum will include life sciences and mathematics, allowing students to directly experience the subjects to foster creativity and convergent thinking skills.
