On the day, Gu Boncheol defeated Bahrain's Abdullah Munfaredi with an advantage score of 4-1 in the men's 77kg jujitsu final held at the Xiaoshan Linpu Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. He earned 1 advantage point with 4 minutes and 31 seconds remaining in the match and added 2 more advantage points with ground techniques.
With 4 minutes and 8 seconds left in the match, Gu Boncheol suffered a nosebleed due to his opponent's rough play but resumed the match after stopping the bleeding. Both athletes exchanged one penalty each with 2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining.
