Art and Culture City Busan - Overseas Sister Cities, The 61st Busan Arts Festival Opens

Invited Dance and Music Groups from Sister Cities in Japan and China
Busan City and the Busan Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations will hold the opening ceremony of the ‘61st Busan Arts Festival,’ the only comprehensive arts festival in Busan, at 5 p.m. on the 6th at the Busan Citizens Hall Grand Theater.
At the opening ceremony, about 300 people including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Busan Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations President Oh Soo-yeon, members of the Busan Federation’s unit associations actively performing under the title ‘回 (Hui),’ member organizations, and civic groups will attend, and various genres of artistic performances will be presented.
Performances will include Korean traditional music orchestra, Chinese traditional dance, Japanese traditional music, vocal music, street dance, and Taekwondo dance.
In particular, invited performances by the Traditional Dance School affiliated with Shanghai Theatre Academy in China and traditional music groups belonging to the Fukuoka Cultural Federation in Japan will be held, expected to become a venue for harmony among Korean, Chinese, and Japanese artists.
Starting with the opening ceremony, the ‘61st Busan Arts Festival,’ marking its official launch, will be held until October 29 at Busan Arts Center, Busan Cultural Center, Busan Citizens Hall, and around Busan City Hall, jointly hosted by Busan City and the Busan Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations.
The Busan Arts Festival began in 1963 to celebrate Busan’s promotion to a metropolitan city, and since 2009, it has grown into an international exchange event with Busan’s overseas sister cities.
On this basis, it has continued pure private diplomatic activities based on arts and culture with overseas sister cities, serving as a stepping stone for Busan’s growth as an international arts and culture city.
This year’s festival also commemorates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Busan Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations.
This year’s Busan Arts Festival consists of 15 diverse exhibitions and performances organized by 12 unit associations of the Busan Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations.
