Dongdaemun-gu Provides 165 Million Won in Subsidies for Cultural Festivals at 18 Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
In Seoul's Dongdaemun District (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee), 18 elementary, middle, and high schools will hold cultural festivals and presentations by the end of this year. The district announced on the 5th that it will support these schools with 165 million KRW in educational expense subsidies to assist students' cultural and artistic activities.
Separately, the district has been supporting creative arts education for students through programs such as the one instrument per student program, orchestras, traditional Korean music (gugak) specialized education, and club activities. Earlier this year, it also supported a "One Line a Day Writing" program aimed at improving literacy for elementary schools.
With this support, each school plans to hold cultural and arts festivals tailored to their characteristics, such as presentations of the one instrument per student program, orchestras, and club activities with arts professionals, or exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, writings, and photographs.
Seven elementary schools, including Kyunghee Elementary School, will hold literary festivals, comprehensive arts festivals, and family arts festivals, while five middle schools, including Jeondong Middle School, will host school festivals and healing concerts with local artists.
Three high schools, including Kyunghee Girls' High School, will hold orchestra concerts and club presentations with local residents.
