Parliamentary Confirmation Hearing Opens After Intense Debate
Emphasizing Care Policies and Support for At-Risk Youth
Kim Haeng, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, attended the parliamentary confirmation hearing on the 5th and stated, "As long as the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) exists, we will continue to expand substantial protection for women, families, and youth."
In her opening remarks at the confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly that morning, Kim said, "I consider it a great honor to stand before the respected committee members as the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family to have my capabilities and qualifications evaluated, and at the same time, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility and mission."
She added, "Based on my long-standing experience and expertise in various fields, I am here to work for the happiness of the people and the sustainability of the Republic of Korea, focusing on women, families, and youth. The tasks handled by MOGEF all involve helping the vulnerable who suffer in the limits of our society."
To this end, she promised, "I will establish family policies that leave no one marginalized and create a society where the value of family can spread. I will provide meticulous support to families facing difficulties such as pregnant women in crisis, single-parent families, adolescent parents, and multicultural families, and work to alleviate the burdens of child-rearing."
She also emphasized, "We will actively respond to changes in family service demands and strengthen customized support so that all families can live healthily without discrimination," highlighting plans to enhance childcare services for dual-income couples and others.
Kim also pledged to provide policy support to help at-risk youth become independent. Furthermore, she announced plans to establish a protection and support system for victims of the five major types of violence: power-based sexual crimes, digital sexual crimes, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking crimes.
