GS25 Gasan Smart Store is a so-called 'Take&Go' convenience store where customers enter by scanning a smartphone QR code and automatically pay when they pick up the desired products and leave.
GS25 stated that the Gasan Smart Store was built through a three-party collaboration project with the Korea Internet & Security Agency and AI startup Finders AI. Unlike existing smart convenience stores that were limited to certain customers, this store operates in a fully open format accessible to anyone. About 1,000 types of products, including cigarettes, ready-to-eat meals, and beverages, are sold.
The GS25 Gasan Smart Store is equipped with a customer identification system via the Our Neighborhood GS application (app) QR code, deep learning AI cameras that analyze customer behavior and product information, precise weight detection sensors that collect product movement data, cloud POS that analyzes and processes integrated data, an AI-based automatic payment system, and an unmanned cigarette vending machine with adult verification functionality.
Customers can enter by scanning the QR code within the GS Retail exclusive app Our Neighborhood GS at the dedicated gate (Gasan Smart Store entrance). To expand versatility, the system also supports entry via credit card and Kakao QR codes in addition to the Our Neighborhood GS app QR code.
When customers enter the store through the dedicated gate, 60 deep learning AI cameras recognize customer behavior, and approximately 190 weight detection sensors installed on each product shelf collect real-time product movement information. The cloud POS integrates and analyzes information from the deep learning AI cameras and weight detection sensors to make a final judgment on which products and how many were selected at the end of the customer's shopping.
When customers leave through the dedicated gate carrying the selected items, the AI-powered payment system automatically processes the payment and provides a mobile receipt. Convenience store promotions such as 1+1 offers and price discounts are automatically applied, and any free gifts not taken by the customer are stored in the 'My Refrigerator' storage system within the Our Neighborhood GS app.
