Shall We Walk Under the Dim Moonlight in 'Cheongwadae' and 'Seochon'?
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will hold the 'Jongno Cultural Heritage Night Tour' twice, on October 6-7 and 13-14.
Participants can explore Seochon, the cultural center of the middle class during the Joseon Dynasty as well as the Blue House, and enjoy special performances that enhance the charm of each location, generating high expectations for popularity.
First, during the first week of October on the 6th and 7th, the night tour program will be held with the Blue House, formerly the rear garden of Gyeongbokgung Palace, as the backdrop. Participants will be invited guests to the rear garden, allowing them to fully enjoy the serene night scenery of the Blue House.
The night tour on the 6th will take place after the opening ceremony of the 2023 Jongno Festival 'Let's Jongno' at the fountain square in front of the Blue House. On the 7th, attendees can enjoy 'Tree Stories' by Professor Park Sangjin, author of 'The Trees of the Blue House,' a 'Martial Arts Demonstration Training' in front of Nokjiwon where the past military service examination was held, appreciate the traditional architectural style of the presidential residence, and enjoy a 'Classical Concert' adding to the romance of October.
In the second week, on the 13th and 14th, the 'Seochon Night Tour' will be operated in Seochon, the village west of Gyeongbokgung Palace, themed around the middle class of the mid-Joseon period and linked to cultural heritage.
While Bukchon symbolizes the life and culture of the Joseon Dynasty's aristocratic yangban class, Seochon was a neighborhood where middle-class officials such as interpreters, medical officers, and artists lived together. Notable figures such as the painter Jeong Seon, calligrapher Kim Jeonghui, modern artist Lee Jungseop, and poets Lee Sang and Yun Dongju created their works here.
Based on this, the district plans to present a 'creative street play' themed on the lives and culture of the middle class during the night tour. Additionally, the program is richly planned with unique Seochon features such as the 'Okgyesi-sa Rap Performance,' which creatively interprets middle-class literature (Wihang literature), a 'Brass Band Parade,' 'Graffiti Live Painting,' and a 'Stamp Tour.'
Reservations for the Blue House night tour can be made in advance by referring to the district office website. The Seochon night tour is open to everyone without a separate application process. For more details, please refer to the district office website or contact the Culture and Cultural Heritage Utilization Team.
