Investors Sue for "Billions Won Fraud"
Guillaume Patry (41), a former professional gamer turned broadcaster who promoted a non-fungible token (NFT) business, has been sued by investors on charges of fraud involving tens of billions of won.
On the 4th, the Seoul Seocho Police Station announced that Patry was sued in July by about 60 investors of the NFT project "Meta Adventure," which he promoted, on charges of fraud involving tens of billions of won.
"Meta Adventure" is a Klaytn-based P2E (Play to Earn) project in which Patry participated. Players use avatars created as NFTs to play games, earning in-game currency that can be monetized.
Investors reportedly filed a lawsuit against Patry last year, accusing the project of being a scam after the game was not released, despite Patry actively promoting the game by emphasizing his professional gamer background.

NFTs sparked a craze both domestically and internationally starting in 2021, with successful cases such as BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club), where a single monkey illustration sold for hundreds of millions of won. However, as the recent boom has subsided, investment amounts have also decreased. According to the virtual asset analysis firm DappGambl, the monthly NFT trading volume, which reached approximately 3.75 trillion won in August 2021, sharply dropped to about 107 billion won as of July this year.
