Wando-gun Selected for Disaster Prevention Project... Secures 9.5 Billion Won in National Funding

Promotion of Drainage Pump Station and Stormwater Retention Basin Installation in Geumil-eup Dongsong District Today

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) has been selected for the '2024 Disaster Prevention Project' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 9.5 billion KRW in national funding.

The disaster prevention project aims to eliminate risk factors in areas where disasters have occurred in the past or where there is a high risk of disaster occurrence, thereby preventing damage.

According to the county on the 4th, the selected project is the 'Geumil-eup Dongsong Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project.' The target area, Dongsong district in Geumil-eup, is a region where some low-lying parts of the village are habitually flooded when heavy rain coincides with high tide.

Accordingly, since October last year, the county completed the basic plan establishment and feasibility study, and actively explained the urgency and necessity to central government departments, achieving the success of being selected.

The project plans to invest a total of 19 billion KRW, including 9.5 billion KRW in national funds, over the next three years starting next year, to install one drainage pump station and one stormwater detention basin, and to improve and newly construct 1.2 km of stormwater drainage pipes. The project is scheduled to commence detailed design services in January next year.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, "We will do our best to create a disaster-free Wando-gun where residents can live safely and comfortably through proactive and preemptive project implementation."
