Korean Language Quiz and Calligraphy Contest... Seoul City Hosts Hangul Week Event
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 4th that it will hold a Hangul Week commemorative event in front of the King Sejong Statue at Gwanghwamun Square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 9th, marking the 577th Hangul Day.
This year’s event, themed "Smiling Seoul, More Smiling Hangul," is composed of various participatory programs designed to help many citizens, including children and foreigners who represent future generations, become more familiar with the proper use of the Korean language and Hangul.
The first main event, starting at 1:30 p.m., features a special lecture by artist Lee Sang-hyun, a pioneer of Korean calligraphy, for the ‘Haechi Reporters’ on the topic of ‘Expressing Smiling Faces in Hangul.’ The second event, ‘Korean Language Quiz with Korean Broadcasting System (KBS),’ begins at 2:30 p.m. The quiz will involve 100 participants: 80 pre-registered individuals including children and foreigners, and 20 citizens who register on-site starting from 10 a.m.
Additionally, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the ‘HaHaHa Calligraphy Contest’ will be held. Those wishing to participate can submit a photo taken with a smiling face after expressing laughter in Hangul at the on-site registration desk. Winners will receive bookstore gift certificates worth approximately 30,000 KRW. Moreover, Seoul will provide experiential spaces related to Hangul, offering various enjoyable activities and attractions to citizens visiting Gwanghwamun Square during the holiday.
