On the 30th, Korea lost 2-3 in a fierce battle against India in the semifinals of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games men's badminton team event held at Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China.
With this, the Korean team secured the bronze medal, concluding their sensational run. Having previously defeated strong teams such as Malaysia and Indonesia in the quarterfinals and semifinals, Korea raised expectations. Although they failed to advance to the finals, they proved their skills by entering the medal zone.
The men's badminton team was eliminated in the quarterfinals at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games. They challenged to reach the finals for the first time in nine years since the 2014 Incheon Games, but unfortunately ended the competition at the semifinals again this time.
The team event proceeds in the order of singles-doubles-singles-doubles-singles. Korea engaged in a battle lasting over five hours against India. In the first match, Jeon Hyeok-jin (Yonex), ranked 47th in the world, lost in a close match to world No. 7 H.S. Prannoy with a set score of 1-2 (21-18, 16-21, 19-21).
Next, in the second doubles match, Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok (both Samsung Life Insurance, world No. 4) defeated world No. 3 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty with a set score of 2-0 (21-13, 26-24), leveling the score.
In the third singles match, Lee Yoon-kyu (Gimcheon City Hall) lost to Lakshya Sen with a set score of 0-2 (7-21, 9-21). In the following fourth doubles match, the pair Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) and Na Sung-seung (Gimcheon City Hall) defeated M.R. Arjun and Dhruv Kapila 2-0 (21-16, 21-11), pushing the contest to the fifth match.
In the fifth match, world No. 163 Jo Geon-yeop (Seongnam City Hall) fought fiercely against world No. 21 Kidambi Srikanth. He raised hopes by winning the first set but unfortunately lost the next two sets consecutively, resulting in a disappointing defeat.
