[Asian Games] Olympic Gymnast Shin Jae-hwan Wins Gold, 4th Place in Vault Event

2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Shin Jae-hwan (25, Jecheon City Hall) finished 4th at the Asian Games. On the 29th, at the Huanglong Sports Center Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, he scored an average of 14.149 points in the men's vault final at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. He placed 4th behind Japan's Wataru Tanigawa (15.016 points), Mahdi Olfati (Iran, 14.783 points), and Muhammad Sharul (Malaysia, 14.466 points).
In his first attempt, Shin Jae-hwan performed a high-difficulty skill rated 6.0, but after soaring into the air, he lost control of his speed upon landing and almost collapsed onto the mat, stepping back significantly and falling on his buttocks. As a result, he received a 0.3-point deduction, scoring 13.766 points. In his second attempt, he performed a skill with a difficulty of 5.2 and added an execution score of 9.333, earning 14.533 points.
Previously, Shin Jae-hwan was the winner of the vault event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021. He was the first Korean gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal in nine years since Yang Hak-seon (vault) at the 2012 London Olympics, and the second ever in Korean gymnastics history.
