Chonnam National University Hospital Holds 113th Anniversary Ceremony
Chonnam National University Hospital (Director Ahn Young-geun) announced on the 26th that it held its 113th anniversary ceremony under the theme of "Past, Present, and New History."
About 300 guests, including Jeong Seong-taek, Chairman of the Board of Chonnam National University Hospital and President of Chonnam National University, Director Ahn Young-geun, Director Kim Young-ok of Chonnam National University Children's Hospital, as well as National Assembly member Yang Hyang-ja, Joo Ki-hwan, Chairman of the Gwangju branch of the People Power Party, and Kim Hwa-jin, Chairman of the Jeonnam branch of the People Power Party, attended the event.
The anniversary ceremony began with commemorative speeches by Director Ahn Young-geun and Director Kim Young-ok of the Children's Hospital, followed by a welcoming address from Jeong Seong-taek, Chairman of the Board of Chonnam National University Hospital and President of Chonnam National University. A congratulatory video message from Gagman Cultwo’s Kim Tae-gyun was also screened, along with messages from National Assembly members and local government heads from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.
Afterwards, a video titled "In Search of History" was shown, featuring Professor Emeritus Lee Hyun-cheol, who chaired the compilation committee for the 100-year history of Chonnam National University Hospital, and Dean Jeong Young-do of Chonnam National University College of Medicine. The video revisited the site of Gwangju Ja-Hye Clinic, the hospital’s origin 113 years ago, reflecting on the past and expressing hopes for the new hospital by nurses and residents. Additionally, a media performance by the IN Pungnyu team, which combines traditional Korean percussion instruments with media LED technology, was presented.
Subsequently, a special merit award was presented to Park Heung-seok, Chairman of Lucky Industry and Chairman of the Chonnam National University Hospital Development Support Association, along with anniversary awards to 21 employees and affiliated organizations.
Jeong Seong-taek, Chairman of the Board of Chonnam National University Hospital and President of Chonnam National University, stated, “Chonnam National University Hospital will be reborn as a ‘New Smart Hospital’ that upgrades the entire medical system and sets future medical standards. I hope that in the next 100 years, it will continue to lead not only in public healthcare but also in academic advancement and medical progress as a regional flagship national university hospital that shares joys and sorrows with the local community.”
Director Ahn Young-geun said, “Reflecting on the noble spirit of establishing the first hospital on this land 113 years ago, we must continue to change and innovate to create a better world and save more lives. We will do our best to make the New Smart Hospital with cutting-edge infrastructure, a hospital that is the core of a regionally complete medical system and essential critical care, and a hospital that excels in treatment, education, and research in the world?not just a dream but a reality.”

Meanwhile, prior to the anniversary ceremony, Chonnam National University Hospital held a 113th anniversary music concert on the 22nd at 4 p.m. in Deokjae Hall of Chonnam National University College of Medicine under the theme “You Are the Light of Chonnam National University Hospital,” with about 100 employees gathered. The concert featured performances such as Samulnori and choir by children from the hospital’s daycare center, the hospital’s employee band Hydration, and daegeum (bamboo flute) performances by Professor Kim Sang-yeon of the Korean Traditional Music Department at Chonnam National University.
