The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 26th that the National Korean Literature Museum will begin full-scale construction orders from next month, aiming to open in 2026. The basic construction plan was established in 2019, and international design competitions, various permits, and consultation procedures have been completed. It will be built in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, with two basement floors and two above-ground floors. The total project cost is 68.6 billion KRW, and the project period is from 2024 to 2026.
On the 25th, Park Bo-gyun, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, received a report on the roadmap for the construction of the National Korean Literature Museum from Moon Jeong-hee, Director of the National Korean Literature Museum, and said, "It will be a space that preserves and records the history and achievements of Korean literature, as well as a free and creative space that supports and stimulates the future and imagination of literature." Director Moon responded, "It will serve as a foundation to systematically store and creatively develop stories, which are the roots of K-Culture," and added, "We will devote the museum's capabilities and passion to ensure its smooth construction."

The National Korean Literature Museum is currently intensively collecting literary materials. By the end of this month, about 93,000 items have been collected, including rare Korean literature editions such as Samguk Yusa and Dusieonhae, as well as representative materials like Mansejeon and Chunhyangjeon. Next month, more than 20,000 literary materials of Yun Dong-ju and the late Professor Masuo Omura, who dedicated his life to Korean literature research, will also be donated.
