‘Euratchacha Wonderful Second Half, Together with Future Generations’ … Busan City Holds ‘27th Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony’
Held at City Hall 1st Floor Auditorium at 10 AM on the 26th
About 700 Attendees Including Busan City, Senior Groups, and Citizens
Busan City will hold the ‘27th Senior Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony’ at 10 a.m. on the 26th in the main auditorium on the first floor of City Hall.
Every year, October 2nd is Senior Citizens' Day, established in 1997 to preserve the tradition of respecting the elderly and to raise national and public awareness of senior issues. The city has designated October as ‘Senior Month’ annually to reflect on its significance through commemorative ceremonies.
This year marks the 27th Senior Citizens' Day ceremony, which will be held under the slogan ‘Cheer Up for a Wonderful Second Half, Together with Future Generations,’ expressing the will to actively communicate with future generations and become a meaningful presence in the community through self-development and volunteer work.
The ceremony will be attended by about 700 people, including Busan City officials, senior organizations, and citizens, and will proceed in the order of ▲awarding meritorious persons ▲presentation of commemorative gifts to centenarians ▲delivery of living support funds to grandparent-grandchild families ▲1st and 3rd generation integrated performances ▲and a performance wishing for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Attendees will include Administrative Vice Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon, Busan City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min, Busan Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su, as well as senior organization and institution officials including Moon Woo-taek, chairman of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Busan City Federation, the organizing body, and award recipients.
Before the event begins, the ‘Gyeongheon Arts Volunteer Group,’ actively engaged in volunteer activities at senior care facilities, will present a folk song performance, a heritage of our traditional sounds connecting past and present.
First, an awards ceremony will be held for organizations and institutions that actively discover neighbors in welfare blind spots and operate various programs to create a warm Busan.
▲Four organizations and institutions ▲Seven living support workers who contributed to welfare improvement such as senior care on the front lines ▲Five exemplary seniors who have continuously worked to enhance the rights and volunteer activities of local elders ▲and a total of 17 people including those meritorious in funeral service duties will receive commendations from the Minister of Health and Welfare and the Mayor of Busan.
Also, last year and this year, with a strong will to lead the next generation as senior citizens, the Korea Senior Citizens Association Busan City Federation will deliver a total of 10 million KRW in living support funds to 20 grandparent-grandchild families, sponsored by the Korea Housing Finance Corporation. Each family will receive 500,000 KRW.
As the final order of the ceremony, a performance wishing for the successful bid of the 2030 World Expo, which will greatly influence Busan’s future, will be held, promising to take the lead in Busan’s development as active seniors. ‘Active seniors’ refers to people in their 50s and 60s who actively seek and challenge what they want to do even after retirement, distinguished from the ‘silver generation’ by their active consumption and cultural activities.
All attendees will hold a placard with the phrase ‘Cheer Up for a Wonderful Second Half, Together with Future Generations, Wishing for the Successful Bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo’ and cheer together.
