Muan-gun Secures 2.5 Billion KRW in National Funding for Climate-Responsive Urban Forest

Creation of Urban Forests Along the Namak Stream Area

Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) has achieved a great success by being finally selected for the 2024-2025 Climate Response Urban Forest Contest Project, securing 2.5 billion KRW in national forest service budget.

According to the county on the 25th, they applied for the creation of an urban forest along the Namak Stream in Namak New Town in May for the Korea Forest Service's Climate Response Urban Forest Creation Project contest, and on the 12th, it was finally selected as the project site for next year.

The Climate Response Urban Forest project is aimed at creating forests to respond to climate crises such as fine dust and urban heat island effects. Over two years from next year to the following year, a dense forest will be created over an area of 5 hectares along the Namak Stream with a total project cost of 5 billion KRW (2.5 billion KRW national budget, 2.5 billion KRW county budget).

The specific location covers the area from Namak Geunhwa Bea Che Apartments to Namak Waterfront Park along the Namak small stream, surrounding the perimeter of Daejukdo, passing by Jeonnam Provincial Library, and extending to the Daejukdo landscape drainage channel leading to Namak Waterfront Park.

Governor Kim San said, “Being finally selected for this contest project is a joyous event. Through the Namak Stream Climate Response Urban Forest project, we plan to form a high-quality green axis crossing Namak New Town, which is expected to improve residents' living environment and provide a resting space. We will do our best to promote this project so that Namak can once again become a premium new town.”
