Guro-gu Establishes 532 School Zones Near Gaewoong Elementary and Gaemyeong Elementary Schools
Gaebong 3-dong near Gaewoong Elementary and Gaemyeong Elementary... Speed limit reduced to 20 km/h, signs installed and anti-slip road surface completed
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) has newly established the ‘School Zone 532’ to prevent child traffic accidents and ensure safety on school routes.
‘School Zone 532’ is a project that sets a designated area around schools to prevent child traffic accidents on school routes by lowering the speed limit on side roads within the school zone to 20 km/h, and installing traffic safety facilities such as road markings and anti-slip pavement.
The newly established locations are two areas near Gaewung Elementary School and Gaemyeong Elementary School in Gaebong 3-dong, Guro-gu. This month, the district completed the installation of speed limit reduction signs (from 30 km/h to 20 km/h) and maintenance of traffic safety facilities including anti-slip pavement in these areas.
The area around Gaewung Elementary School had a high risk of accidents due to heavy traffic and pedestrian volume in a series of intersections. Similarly, the area around Gaemyeong Elementary School had deteriorated road surfaces and no clear separation between sidewalks and roadways, exposing pedestrians to accident risks.
To address these issues, the district applied ‘School Zone 532’ to approximately 480 meters from the main gate intersection of Gaewung Elementary School to the Gaebong-ro connection, and about 230 meters from the main gate of Gaemyeong Elementary School to the Gaebong-ro 3-ga-gil area.
In these sections, elevated intersections, speed bumps, and anti-slip pavement were installed to prevent vehicles from speeding, creating pedestrian-priority roads.
Additionally, on the 18th, Mayor Moon Heon-il personally visited and inspected the two sites where ‘School Zone 532’ was established.
According to the district, on that day, Mayor Moon walked along the children’s routes and asked residents for their opinions on the newly installed traffic safety facilities.
