55 Years of the Mountaineer's 'Gateway'... Presidential Cup National Climbing Competition Held
Korean Alpine Federation to Hold Event on the 24th at Naeyeonsan, Pohang, Gyeongbuk
The Presidential National Mountaineering Competition will be held in Pohang, Gyeongbuk.
The Korea Alpine Federation (President Son Jungho) announced on the 22nd that the 55th Presidential National Mountaineering Competition will take place on the 24th at Naeyeonsan in Pohang.
The Korea Alpine Federation is hosting the event, with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Alpine Federation and Pohang City Alpine Federation organizing it. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Pohang City, and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation are participating as sponsors.
Sponsored by Janka, the competition will feature over 500 participants from about 150 teams representing 17 city and provincial federations. The event is divided into eight categories: male and female high school division, university division, general division, and senior division.
Participants, organized into teams of three, will move through the competition course and be evaluated on their operational skills, mountain independence, mountaineering knowledge, equipment inspection, first aid, basic rock climbing, knot tying, and mountain safety, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of mountaineering.
Awards will be given based on competition results to the overall top 1st to 3rd places and the top 1st to 3rd places in each category. The winning teams in the male and female high school and university divisions, as well as the coaches of the male and female high school winning teams, will each receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award. Additionally, the city or provincial alpine federation that achieves the overall championship by combining category rankings will be awarded the Presidential Flag.
Son Jungho, president of the Korea Alpine Federation, introduced the event as "the only Presidential Flag-approved competition in the mountaineering discipline with a 55-year tradition that has discovered many outstanding mountaineers," and noted, "The number of participants in this year's competition has increased compared to previous years, and the population of mountaineers has grown across various age groups."
