Seoul City Holds Event Commemorating 'Dementia Overcoming Day'
Seoul City announced on the 22nd that it held the ‘16th Dementia Overcoming Day Commemoration Ceremony’ at the Korea Church Centennial Memorial Hall, where dementia patients, their families, and citizens participated together in celebration of Dementia Overcoming Day.
Under the slogan “A Dementia-Friendly Society Created Together with Warm Interest and Love,” about 300 people including dementia patients and their families, as well as dementia-related workers, attended the ceremony. After a video congratulatory message from Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and awards for dementia meritorious persons who have greatly contributed to the development of dementia management projects and winners of the Memory Friends video (UCC) contest, the winning entries of the contest were screened.
Each district also held various events to improve citizens’ awareness of dementia in celebration of Dementia Overcoming Day, including commemorative events (Guro-gu), senior citizens’ art exhibitions (Gwanak, Mapo, Seodaemun, Songpa, Jongno, Gangnam-gu), health lectures (Gwangjin, Yangcheon-gu), and Memory Cafes.
Seoul City is implementing comprehensive dementia management projects, including early screening for elderly people in medical blind spots in preparation for population aging and the increase in dementia patients, as well as supporting dementia examination and treatment costs.
