The 104th National Sports Festival Busan Representative Team Decision Ceremony Held
October 19, 5:30 PM at City Hall, National Sports Festival Held in Mokpo, Jeonnam
Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Chairman Jang In-hwa of City Sports Council, Sports Officials, and 600 Athletes Attend
Busan City and the Busan Sports Council (Chairman Jang In-hwa) will hold a send-off ceremony for the Busan representative athletes participating in the “104th National Sports Festival” at 5:30 PM on the 19th in the city hall auditorium.
This send-off ceremony was organized to strengthen the determination of the Busan representative athletes participating in the “104th National Sports Festival,” which will be held in Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do, this October.
Attending the ceremony will be Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan, Lee Dae-seok, Vice Chairman of the Busan City Council, Ha Yoon-soo, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Jang In-hwa, Chairman of the Busan Sports Council, along with sports officials, athletes, and staff totaling around 600 people, all set to express their determination to win.
The event will proceed in the following order: ▲Report on preparation status ▲Screening of a video showing the athletes’ intensive training ▲Presentation of the team flag ▲Oath-taking by athlete representatives ▲Encouraging remarks ▲Resolution pledge. The athlete representatives taking the oath will be Kendo athlete Kim Min-gyu (Busan Sports Council) and Track and Field athlete Yoon Ye-rin (Busan Physical Education High School).
Before the event begins, a congratulatory performance by the Aerobic Hip-hop National Team is scheduled.
The congratulatory performance will also include a “Busan Expo Hosting Wish Performance,” expressing hopes for Busan to be announced as the host city for the 2030 World Expo, which is just two months away.
The Busan representative athletes include individual competitors such as fencer Song Se-ra (Busan City Hall), yacht athletes Jo Seong-min and Kim Ji-a (Busan City Hall), shooter Kim Jang-mi (Busan City Hall), track and field athlete Yoon Ye-rin (Busan Physical Education High School), and swimmer Lee Song-eun (Sajik High School). In team events, strong performances are expected from baseball (Busan High School), badminton (Busan University of Foreign Studies), basketball (Dongju Girls’ High School), and aerobic hip-hop (Busan Sports Council).
The 104th National Sports Festival, marking its 104th edition this year, will be held from October 13 to 19 in the Mokpo area of Jeollanam-do. The 105th festival will be hosted in Gyeongnam in 2024, and the 106th in Busan in 2025.
The 104th National Sports Festival will feature a total of 49 events (47 official, 2 demonstration) with over 30,000 athletes from 17 cities and provinces nationwide, along with more than 1,300 overseas Korean athletes from 18 countries. Busan is expected to send around 1,600 participants including athletes and staff.
Busan City and the Busan Sports Council are currently working on venue allocation, renovations, and selecting symbols for the National Sports Festival in preparation for the 106th festival to be held in Busan two years from now, while also focusing on nurturing outstanding athletes.
