Temporary Opening of the Elevated Pedestrian Bridge Between Yongsan Station and Dragon City Hotel
Yongsan-gu Temporarily Opens 147m Aerial Pedestrian Bridge Connecting Yongsan Station to Seoul Dragon City Hotel on the 19th
Approved After Expert Safety Verification to Minimize Resident Inconvenience
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will temporarily open a 147-meter-long aerial pedestrian bridge connecting Yongsan Station and Seoul Dragon City Hotel on the 19th.
When the demolition of the old aerial pedestrian bridge began last April, residents who used the existing bridge had to take a long detour through a narrow temporary passage, causing significant inconvenience. There were also concerns about safety accidents for pedestrians with mobility difficulties, such as the elderly and disabled.
With the upcoming Chuseok holiday, pedestrian traffic around Yongsan Station is expected to increase significantly, and many residents demanded the priority opening of the pedestrian bridge.
In response, the district approved the temporary opening of the aerial pedestrian bridge to minimize residents' inconvenience. The structural work has been completed, and safety for pedestrians has been confirmed through verification by experts and supervisors.
The newly constructed aerial pedestrian bridge is 147.03 meters long, 8.6 meters wide (with an internal walkway of 5 meters), and covers an area of 1,264.53 square meters. It is installed at a height of 10.15 meters, equivalent to the third floor of Yongsan Station. Notably, compared to the existing bridge, the route has been straightened, and the slope has been eased from a steep 9° to nearly flat 1°, greatly improving mobility convenience.
The exterior features a net-like design, and the interior walls are finished with transparent glass to maximize openness. Pedestrians using the aerial bridge can also enjoy the surrounding scenery, making it expected to become a new landmark.
The aerial pedestrian bridge, scheduled for final completion next October after finishing touches, will be donated to the Korea National Railway Corporation, and maintenance will be managed by Seobu TND, the operator of Seoul Dragon City Hotel.
