Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it held a commemorative event at 3 p.m. on the 18th at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall to celebrate the ‘28th Yeongdeungpo Residents' Day,’ fostering a time of unity and harmony among residents.
Every year on September 28, ‘Yeongdeungpo Residents' Day’ commemorates the day in 1946 when Yeongdeungpo-gu was incorporated into Seoul and began using the name Yeongdeungpo-gu.
Since establishing Residents' Day by ordinance in 1996, the district has held events to honor and celebrate the significance of the day with its residents.
About 1,000 people attended the Residents' Day event, including Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, former district mayors, party committee chairpersons, city and district council members, heads of related organizations, leaders of professional groups, and representatives from various sectors of the community.
The event, smoothly hosted by announcer Lee Se-ran, featured a pre-ceremony performance, reading of the Residents' Charter, congratulatory speeches and videos, commemorative addresses, presentation of Residents' Awards, appointment of honorary district mayors, presentation of appreciation plaques, and celebratory performances.
The Yeongdeungpo Volunteer Orchestra energized the atmosphere with a pre-ceremony performance. Following this, six resident representatives composed of children, youth, and seniors read the Yeongdeungpo Residents' Charter, and congratulatory videos from five sister cities were screened.
In his commemorative address, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon dedicated the day’s honor to the residents who have worked hard for a better Yeongdeungpo in their respective roles, expressing that over the past one year and three months, he has felt the greatness and pride of Yeongdeungpo residents. He also shared the future direction and vision of district administration, along with Yeongdeungpo’s bright future, including the construction of the Yeouido 2nd Sejong Cultural Center, the Yeongdeungpo Arts Center, redevelopment and reconstruction projects, and the launch of the Yeongdeungpo Future Education Foundation.
Mayor Choi then appointed eight honorary district mayors who serve as bridges between the public and private sectors in education and welfare, and presented appreciation plaques to four city council members who made significant contributions to Yeongdeungpo’s development through their dedicated legislative activities. Additionally, 15 residents and two organizations who quietly devoted themselves to community development were awarded the proud Yeongdeungpo Residents' Awards, including filial piety awards, volunteer awards, and cultural and arts awards.
Furthermore, a lively congratulatory performance was held featuring trot singer Kim Su-chan and the district’s women’s choir, providing an enjoyable and harmonious occasion for the residents.
