Gokseong-gun Successfully Concludes Kkumnolja Orienteering Competition

Let's Go to Gichaemauel with a Compass and Map in Hand

Jeonnam Gokseong-gun Future Education Foundation (Chairman Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it held the Dream Play Orienteering Competition at Seomjingang Train Village on the 16th.

Orienteering is a sport where participants use a map and compass to follow a designated route to reach the final destination. The foundation has been conducting experiential learning based on this as part of the elementary school curriculum.

This competition was attended by about 50 students from 1st to 6th grade in elementary school and their families.

The orienteering event was held in a competitive format where participants tested their skills against each other, based on the content previously conducted only as part of the curriculum at schools and Jewol Island.

Before the competition started, basic orienteering training was provided for the participants.

The participants explored various places holding unfamiliar maps in a new environment called Seomjingang Train Village while competing.

This competition provided a new experience for students unfamiliar with orienteering, and for those who completed the curriculum-linked classes, it was a meaningful time to fully demonstrate their skills.

Students who persevered and reached the destination were awarded completion medals.

Additionally, in the competition category for 5th and 6th graders, winners from 1st to 3rd place received certificates, medals, and trophies.

Elementary school participant A said, “It was a more enjoyable competition because I could apply what I learned in class. I gave my best to achieve good results, and although my whole body is drenched in sweat, I feel a great sense of accomplishment.”
