Building P-GPT Platform Integrating Internal Knowledge Information

Enhancing Work Efficiency by Utilizing Diverse Information

POSCO is driving digital innovation in business by introducing the P-GPT (Private GPT) platform integrated with its internal work systems.

ChatGPT is a conversational AI service based on the GPT artificial intelligence language model, which provides information through deep learning technology by analyzing vast amounts of internet data. Since its initial release in December last year, ChatGPT has been recognized for sparking work innovation as its data search and analysis functions have increasingly been utilized in business operations.

POSCO has taken a step further by integrating its proprietary internal knowledge information to enhance the use of ChatGPT in the work of its employees, launching the P-GPT (Private-GPT) service.

P-GPT consists of three main types: General-GPT, Corporate Citizenship-GPT, and Fair Trade-GPT. General-GPT allows users to access the existing GPT services directly through the company intranet, offering the advantage of quicker and more convenient access to ChatGPT during work.

Corporate Citizenship-GPT combines the company’s extensive internal knowledge related to its corporate citizenship management philosophy with the GPT language model to answer related questions. Through this, POSCO can analyze its corporate citizenship efforts and cases, as well as those of foreign companies, to apply them to its social contribution policies or promotional activities. Additionally, it enables searching for expert analyses and future improvement directions regarding the corporate citizenship philosophy, allowing immediate application in work.

Fair Trade-GPT also integrates the company’s fair trade compliance manual with the GPT language model to respond to questions related to fair trade laws. It enables rapid research and analysis of legal regulations such as the Fair Trade Act, Subcontracting Act, and Agency Act, which employees must comply with when conducting business with partners, as well as relevant rulings and key precautions, thereby significantly contributing to mitigating fair trade risks.

The use of P-GPT is also expected to prevent the leakage of sensitive internal information. Since there are concerns that using OpenAI’s ChatGPT could lead to the external leakage of corporate sensitive information, POSCO has built Private-GPT within a restricted internal environment to comply with internal security regulations and limit unauthorized use.

In particular, P-GPT is designed for immediate use on the company intranet without requiring separate external program installation or configuration, enhancing user convenience. Furthermore, it features a more intuitive UI and minimizes unnecessary menus to create a user-friendly environment. A mobile-only app is also provided, which is expected to increase accessibility by allowing service access regardless of time and place.

POSCO operates a separate function to collect user feedback for continuous improvement of P-GPT performance. Users can leave immediate feedback on inaccurate answers received through the General-GPT chat function, which is promptly reflected to help improve the quality of the GPT service.

Additionally, POSCO conducts various ChatGPT utilization training sessions to boost employee productivity. Previously, the POSCO Digital Innovation Office and POSCO Talent Creation Institute provided e-learning lectures in August for employees on how to elicit good responses from ChatGPT and work utilization know-how. Earlier this month, a real-time webinar was held to provide training on extracting high-quality information from ChatGPT.

Sim Min-seok, head of POSCO’s Digital Innovation Office, stated, “With the advent of ChatGPT, the AI era has arrived, making it crucial to achieve an AI technology super-gap to secure competitiveness. In this rapidly changing management environment, we will actively lead efforts to accelerate digital transformation by continuously integrating innovative IT technologies into our work.”
