Korail: "Strikes Causing Public Anxiety Must Be Withdrawn Immediately"
In response to the nationwide railway labor union's announcement of a general strike, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) on the 13th once again urged, "Immediately withdraw the strike that causes public anxiety ahead of the holiday season."
KORAIL also stated, "It is an act that increases public distrust to further inconvenience the public with a strike after they have already suffered from train delays and service suspensions due to extreme heavy rain, heatwaves, and slowdowns," adding, "Since this goes against the union's own claims of enhancing public convenience and expanding public interest, a wise decision from the labor union is necessary."
Furthermore, KORAIL reiterated its position that "the union's demands such as operating the Suseo-bound KTX are government policy matters and cannot be subjects of labor negotiations or strikes," and declared that it will respond strictly according to law and principles if the strike is carried out without legitimacy or justification.
It also emphasized that now is the time for labor and management to join forces to restore public trust through safe and comfortable train operations, not to strike.
