Im Seonghwa, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Proposes 'Single-Person Household Support Ordinance'
Im Seonghwa, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, announced on the 15th that the 'One-Person Household Support Ordinance' was passed at the 314th extraordinary session standing committee.
Councilor Im stated, "According to the Seo-gu statistical yearbook, the number of one-person households has been increasing every year, from 37,757 households (30.9%) in 2017 to 45,623 households (36%) in 2021," and added, "Despite the annual increase of this new household type, there is a lack of a dedicated control tower, legal basis, and measures to address it."
The ordinance includes ▲establishment and execution of a comprehensive plan for one-person households ▲formulation of annual implementation plans and surveys for one-person households ▲support projects ▲installation and operation of dedicated support facilities for one-person households ▲matters related to the formation of a policy advisory group.
Councilor Im stated, "To realize a pioneering Gwangju Seo-gu type social family city, we will actively promote comprehensive and planned policies for one-person households to prevent social isolation of one-person households and pay more attention to strengthening the community."
