The Gyeonggi-do Active Administration Best Practices Competition is an event designed to spread exemplary active administration cases that residents can directly experience to cities, counties, and public institutions. Through preliminary and final evaluations, 12 cases were ultimately selected as outstanding examples.
Anyang City faced ongoing problems with odors emanating from leachate in food waste when foreign substances such as plastic fragments were not sorted out during the food waste treatment process. After more than 20 attempts, the city developed a secondary sorting process that successfully resolved the odor issue.
This case was recognized for contributing to sustainable development and protecting the public's right to health.
Anyang City estimates that this process has drastically reduced the amount of foreign substances, resulting in an annual budget saving of approximately 300 million KRW.
Mayor Choi Dae-ho of Anyang stated, "We will spare no support to enable public officials to carry out regulatory improvement activities and active administration," adding, "We will also support the use of this technology in other local governments to create a positive influence."
