40s Driver Charged After Hitting and Killing 80s Elderly Man Collecting Recyclables
A driver who struck and killed an elderly person collecting scrap paper on an 8-lane road has been booked by the police.
According to the Gwangju Bukbu Police on the 11th, a man in his 40s, identified as driver A, has been booked and is under investigation on charges of causing death by violation of the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
A is accused of hitting and killing an 80-year-old woman, B, who was crossing an 8-lane road in Yangsan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, around 8 p.m. on the 9th.
Police investigation revealed that A was neither under the influence of alcohol nor speeding at the time, and he reportedly stated that he did not anticipate B to appear on the road without a crosswalk, which led to the accident.
B was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away during treatment.
