Chosun University Successfully Concludes '2nd Digital Saessak Camp'
SW·AI Utilization Program for 1,462 Students
Chosun University (President Min Young-don) recently successfully concluded the ‘2023 Second Half Digital Sprout Camp (2nd session)’ conducted in collaboration with partner organizations such as Palchilgusam (CEO Park Deok-hwa) and Witches (CEO Ko Mi-a).
According to Chosun University on the 11th, the 2023 Second Half Digital Sprout Camp is a project hosted by the Ministry of Education, 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide, and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. Chosun University was selected as the host institution for the 2023 Second Half Digital Sprout Camp (led by Professor Byun Jae-young) and conducted this program.
Over two months from July to August, a total of 1,462 students from elementary, middle, and high schools (including Neulbom, specialized high schools, remote island areas, and socially disadvantaged groups) in the Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeju regions participated in various programs designed to enjoy and utilize software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI).
The main contents included ▲Computational Thinking (AI Theme Park, AI Smart Factory, Fun Programming Adventures with Scratch, Animal Keyrings that Protect Me, My Own App Created with App Inventor) ▲Artificial Intelligence and Data (Playing with AI!, Breaking Down AI Data, AI, Our Friend, Creating Immersive Games Using AI, Meeting AI through Programming: From Basics to Practice) ▲Convergent Problem Solving (Future Car Driving Completed with AI SW, Smart City Dreaming of a Sustainable World, Practical Web Projects with Chat-GPT, Our Neighborhood Problem Solving Team, Creating Media Art with Arduino and C Language).
Students who participated in this camp shared their impressions such as, “The winter vacation digital camp at Chosun University was so fun that I asked my school to let me join the summer vacation digital camp,” “While participating in the camp, I understood why Chosun University’s AI·SW education is considered a professional institution and why it is fun. If given the chance, I want to enjoy various programs in the second semester as well,” and “Thank you for making AI·SW enjoyable, not difficult, and letting us create, code, and experience it. I am actively recommending it to my friends.”
Professor Cho Young-joo, in charge, said, “Chosun University has made its best efforts to reduce the digital education gap between regions and students in Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeju areas through SW·AI specialized educational content uniquely designed and operated with a focus on the community and students for many years,” adding, “It seems that this second half camp has become a program that analyzes students’ digital learning abilities long-term and helps them grow efficiently.”

Professor Byun Jae-young (Professor at the College of IT Convergence), the lead professor, stated, “The 2023 Second Half Digital Sprout Camp (2nd session) at Chosun University was organized as a ‘collaborative’ digital sprout talent development program where students directly experience and conduct project-based collaborative camps across 15 diverse themes,” and added, “We will continue to faithfully perform the role of a partner in digital technology education so that students can grow into future-leading talents.”
