The 16th Gwangju Superintendent of Education Cup School Sports Club Competition Heats Up
The 16th Gwangju Metropolitan City Superintendent of Education Cup School Sports Club Competition, featuring elementary, middle, and high school students from Gwangju Metropolitan City, is heating up.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education on the 10th, this competition, aimed at promoting physical health and fostering proper character through school sports club activities, was held in July and will continue until the end of this month.
A total of about 7,000 students are participating, competing in 13 sports such as soccer and volleyball every weekend at venues including Boramae Soccer Stadium and Chonnam National University Gymnasium.
With 491 teams participating, an increase of more than 30% compared to last year's 371 teams, it is seen as an opportunity for school sports activities, which had slowed due to COVID-19, to regain momentum.
The winning teams in each event of this competition will be granted the qualification to represent Gwangju at the 16th National School Sports Club Festival, held from October 20 to November 26. Through this, students with talent and aptitude for sports are expected to further realize their dreams and hopes.
On the 9th, Superintendent of Education Lee Jeong-seon personally visited Chonnam National University Gymnasium to encourage about 300 student athletes participating in the volleyball event.
