Coast Guard Saves Citizen by Swimming 400m Barehanded in Night Sea
Exhausted, Hospitalized and Then Discharged
A Coast Guard rescue team member swam over 400 meters in the middle of the night with his bare body to rescue a citizen who had slipped and fallen into the sea.
According to Ulsan Coast Guard on the 10th, the Coast Guard received a report around 12:30 a.m. that a citizen was struggling after falling into the sea in front of Orangdae, Yeonhwa-ri, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan.

At that time, Park Cheolsu (37), a sergeant and rescue team member of the Ulsan Coast Guard's Gijang Police Station who arrived at the scene, ran about 100 meters down to the rocky shore and then jumped into the sea with his bare body.
Sergeant Park swam 200 meters to rescue the citizen who had fallen into the water and then swam another 200 meters back to the rocky shore.
Having swum a total of about 400 meters with his bare body, Sergeant Park was hospitalized for treatment due to exhaustion, muscle cramps, and full-body abrasions.
Sergeant Park was discharged around 10 a.m. that day. Both the rescued citizen and Sergeant Park are in good health without any major issues.
According to the Coast Guard investigation, the rescued woman is known to have slipped and fallen into the sea.
Previously, in September 2019, Sergeant Park was also active during a ship explosion accident at Ulsan Yeompo Pier and was awarded the Republic of Korea Public Official Award.
At that time, Sergeant Park was the first to enter the accident ship and contributed to rescuing all 46 crew members on board.

At the time of the accident, the weather in front of Gijang was a northeast wind of 6 to 8 m/s, and wave height reached 0.5 to 1 meter.
