Dongdaemun-gu to Renovate Sidewalks on Hanbit-ro and Yakryeongsi-ro by November
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 8th that it will carry out sidewalk maintenance work around Hanbit-ro and Yakryeongsi-ro as part of the 'Walkable Street Creation Project.'
The project areas, Hanbit-ro (section from Sinseol-dong Station to Seongbukcheon) and Yakryeongsi-ro (section from Anam Five-way Intersection to Dongdaemun Police Station Intersection), have sidewalks with worn and damaged blocks that detract from the urban landscape. Due to poor pavement conditions, there is a risk of pedestrian safety accidents, and residents have continuously requested improvements in these areas.
The district secured 1.65 billion KRW from the additional supplementary budget in July to maintain the sidewalks and plans to start the maintenance work this month, aiming to complete it by November this year.
The main contents of this sidewalk maintenance project include ▲repairing old sidewalks (width 2.5m to 3.5m, length 1600m) ▲maintenance of gutters and curbstones (length 1900m) ▲removal of obstacles hindering pedestrian movement. To prevent slip-and-fall accidents around bus stops, the district will install special sidewalk blocks with high slip resistance coefficients and create a distinctive walking environment unique to Dongdaemun-gu by installing marble-textured sidewalk blocks in three harmonious colors to build a 'city people want to walk in.'
