Bucheon City Delivers Petition to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Urging Relaxation of Height Restrictions Around Gimpo Airport
On the 8th, Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 5th, the Bucheon City and Seoul Gangseo and Yangcheon District Height Restriction Relaxation Promotion Committee around Gimpo Airport visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to deliver a petition signed by residents urging the relaxation of height restrictions around Gimpo Airport.
Currently, 24.73㎢, which is 46% of Bucheon City's total area (53.45㎢), is designated as an obstacle limitation surface, restricting building heights and limiting the exercise of private property rights for decades. Furthermore, the recent rapid construction of villas and standalone apartments has gradually worsened the residential environment.
Accordingly, the Bucheon Promotion Committee, together with local governments near Gimpo Airport, shared the intention to relax height restrictions and conducted a two-month resident signature campaign starting in May. As a result, 66,305 people signed the petition, including 41,192 Bucheon citizens.
On that day, the Bucheon and Gangseo District Promotion Committees submitted a joint proposal to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport along with the petition, containing requests for ▲ the prompt implementation of the aeronautical review system ▲ relaxation of height restrictions considering regional characteristics ▲ adherence to the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) international standard revision schedule.
Bang Soon-hee, Chairperson of the Bucheon Height Restriction Relaxation Promotion Committee, stated, "The Wonjong and Gohang areas, including the Ojeong district, face difficulties in exercising residents' property rights due to height restrictions around Gimpo Airport, causing regional development imbalances. To improve the residential environment in these areas, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport must promptly implement the aeronautical review system stipulated in the Airport Facilities Act, including the relaxation of height restrictions."
