Opportunity to Add Tourism Color to Goheung-gun, Positive Evaluation from Residents

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the ‘2023 Gohung Nokdong Port Drone Show,’ which has been held as a regular performance every Saturday since May, is receiving positive evaluations from residents for significantly influencing the landscape of Gohung tourism.

The Nokdong Port Drone Show is a regular swarm flight drone show featuring 500 drones, held once every Saturday at 9 PM with various themes and productions until November. From October, the winter season, the show time is moved one hour earlier to 8 PM considering the sunset time.

Before the drone show, lively busking performances featuring local cultural and artistic groups and local singers provide another highlight of Gohung’s weekend night tourism.

Thanks to nationwide word of mouth, Gohung has become synonymous with weekend night sightseeing, and the Nokdong Port Drone Show is now established as an essential nighttime course in Gohung’s representative weekend attractions.

Moreover, Nokdong Sea Garden, the optimal viewing spot for the drone show, has recently become a hot and popular destination that tourists want to visit on their Gohung trips.

Recently, tourists visiting Gohung on weekends enjoy healing by admiring the natural scenery of Gohung’s open-air museum during the day, savor delicious food at the Nokdong Port Eel Street at night, take a stroll at the artificial island Sea Garden, watch the drone show, and stay overnight. This has become a new trend in Gohung tourism.

According to the county, excluding postponements or cancellations due to bad weather such as rain, more than 80,000 people have visited Nokdong Port in Gohung to watch the drone show in just 13 performances so far.

Gohung-gun stated that the addition of the distinctive nighttime tourism content of the drone show to the tourism infrastructure of Doyang-eup, Gohung’s representative weekend food tourism area, has created a synergistic effect on local tourism, according to their internal analysis.

Park Yong-cheol, president of the Doyang-eup Prosperity Association, who watches the drone show every week, said, “The image of Gohung as a place to briefly rest during trips has changed significantly to a place to stay, and the local color of Gohung tourism has greatly changed. Every weekend, restaurants are bustling with people, and it is difficult to book accommodations in Doyang-eup because so many tourists visit Nokdong Port on weekends. This is largely due to the drone show.”

A county official said, “Thanks to the Nokdong Port Drone Show, the footsteps of tourists to Gohung have not stopped every weekend, marking a golden opportunity for revitalizing Gohung tourism. We plan to gradually make efforts such as expanding infrastructure so as not to miss this important opportunity to deepen the tourism identity throughout Gohung-gun.”

Meanwhile, Gohung-gun is preparing a dazzling drone light performance full of emotion with themes such as ‘Magic Show, Animals in Gohung Folklore, Traditional Games, and Chuseok’ for the regular Nokdong Port Drone Show on Saturdays in September, which families can enjoy together.
