Visitation Without Investigation? ... Police Officer Providing Convenience to Attempted Murder Suspect Suspended Pending Investigation
A senior officer (Police Superintendent) at Haeundae Police Station in Busan has been placed on administrative leave for allowing an acquaintance to meet inappropriately with a suspect accused of attempted murder who was held in the detention center.
Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 7th that on the 6th, they placed Superintendent A from the Criminal Division of Haeundae Police Station on administrative leave on charges of abuse of authority.
According to the police, Superintendent A is suspected of taking suspect B, who was detained in the Haeundae Police Station detention center in early August, out of the detention center under the pretext of investigation and allowing an acquaintance unrelated to the investigation to visit, thereby providing personal convenience.
To visit a suspect in detention, one must follow the application procedure for visitation or meet only in the visitation room during lawyer visits. Special visits are also only allowed under police supervision for the purpose of suspect investigation.
