Yoon Begins ASEAN Summit Diplomacy... Requests Support for Busan Expo from Cook Islands Prime Minister
Expo Busan Promotion Booklets Also Available in the Conference Room
President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Mark Brown, Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, on the second day of his visit to Indonesia to attend the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit on the 6th (local time) to request interest and support for hosting the Busan Expo.
On the morning of the same day, President Yoon held a Korea-Cook Islands summit with Prime Minister Brown at a hotel in Jakarta. This was the first bilateral meeting held on the occasion of the Asian Summit.
At the summit venue with Prime Minister Brown, a promotional booklet bearing the Busan Expo slogan "Busan Is Ready" was displayed.
The Cook Islands is a South Pacific island country with an area of about 240 km² and a population of approximately 18,000. President Yoon previously held talks with Prime Minister Brown, who visited Korea to attend the 1st Korea-Pacific Island Countries Summit held in Seoul last May.

At that time, President Yoon stated that "based on Korea's national policy principle of contributing to the international community, we will deepen cooperative relations with Pacific Island countries," and discussed cooperation not only in friendly relations but also in the development of deep-sea resources such as manganese, iron, nickel, copper, and cobalt.
