Woowa Brothers Value Management Report 'Baemin Story 2023' Published
Baedal Minjok (Baemin) supported medical expenses and scholarships for children of restaurant owners and riders, amounting to 6.8 billion KRW last year. Through features such as refusing disposable spoons and forks and not accepting unwanted side dishes, it was analyzed that a total greenhouse gas reduction effect of more than 28,000 tons was achieved.
Woowa Brothers Corp., the operator of Baemin (CEO Lee Guk-hwan), announced on the 6th, in celebration of Resource Circulation Day, that it published the value management report “Baemin Story 2023” containing these details.
Woowa Brothers, through the ‘Woowa Boss Care Fund’ and ‘Woowa Rider Care Fund’ established with founder Kim Bong-jin’s private funds and corporate funds, provided a total of 3.2 billion KRW in medical and living expense support to 668 restaurant owners and 193 riders up to last year. Additionally, scholarships for children of restaurant owners have supported 619 students with a total of 3.6 billion KRW up to this year.
Along with this, the report also includes Baemin’s free education programs for restaurant owners and riders to foster a healthy delivery industry ecosystem. The ‘Baemin Academy,’ operated by Woowa Brothers since 2014, has established itself as a high-quality education program among restaurant owners, with cumulative participants surpassing 200,000 as of May this year.
The number of riders who completed the ‘Baemin Rider School’ education operated by Woowa Cheongnyeon, Baemin’s logistics service subsidiary, reached 5,412 last year, more than doubling compared to the previous year, with a cumulative total of about 7,700 graduates by the end of last year. The average satisfaction score of the trainees was very high at 9.7 out of 10. Woowa Cheongnyeon plans to expand the number of trainees to 8,000 this year to strengthen rider safety.
“Baemin Story 2023” also prominently covers Baemin’s efforts and achievements in establishing an eco-friendly delivery culture. The ‘Refuse Disposable Spoon and Fork’ feature introduced in 2019, followed by the ‘Refuse Unwanted Side Dishes’ option introduced in 2021, are Baemin’s representative environmental protection activities aimed at reducing disposable items and food waste. According to the report, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions reduced through these two features is estimated to be about 28,000 tons.
Woowa Brothers also plays a role as a community safety net that provides care and support. Especially last year, when record-breaking heavy rains and wildfires caused significant damage, Baemin extended helping hands to local communities through various means. During the spring wildfires in the Gyeongbuk and Gangwon regions last year, Baemin conducted a customer participation campaign through the Baedal Minjok app and donated a total of 133 million KRW to support wildfire damage recovery.
Additionally, starting from March last year, Baemin supported about 830 million KRW in self-payments for restaurant owners’ flood and windstorm insurance, and provided 400 million KRW to assist victims of heavy rain floods, totaling about 1.2 billion KRW in disaster-related support last year alone.
