Coast Guard Satellite Communication Network Performance Improvement and Obsolete Equipment Replacement Project
Enhancing Coast Guard Satellite Communication Network Performance and Security
Ensuring Successful Project Execution Within the Target Period
SK Telink announced on the 6th that it has been selected as the contractor for the 2023 Korea Coast Guard satellite communication network performance improvement and obsolete equipment replacement project. The Korea Coast Guard has been continuously working on replacing outdated equipment and improving the operational system performance of the Coast Guard satellite communication network (KOSNET) with the goals of ▲enhancing satellite communication quality ▲establishing a stable operational environment ▲and increasing maritime work efficiency through strengthened information sharing systems.
SK Telink was selected as the contractor in the Public Procurement Service-led selection process due to its high understanding of satellite communication systems and extensive experience in establishing and servicing maritime satellite communications. In this project worth 2.5 billion KRW, SK Telink will replace and newly introduce 182 units of equipment across 12 categories, including satellite antennas, modems, RF systems, network security equipment, and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) devices, targeting the main and auxiliary central stations and about 60 ship district stations (vessels).
In particular, while replacing the aging RF systems at the central stations, network security equipment such as UTM (Unified Threat Management System) and TMS (Total Security Management System), which provide integrated threat management functions including firewall, IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), and DDoS defense blocking functions, will be newly applied to further enhance the performance and security of the Coast Guard satellite communication network (KOSNET). Additionally, a Ku-Ka band conversion kit that allows switching satellite communication frequency bands through simple antenna part replacement work on-site will be provided, enabling performance improvements in preparation for service transition according to the development plan of the public multi-purpose communication satellite Cheollian 3, in which the Korea Coast Guard is participating.
