Gang Arrested for Staging Traffic Accident to Fraudulently Obtain 600 Million Won Insurance Payout
A group that caused 46 intentional traffic accidents using luxury imported cars and embezzled insurance money worth hundreds of millions of won has been caught.
The Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 5th that four people, including Mr. A, were arrested and 38 others were booked without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.
They are accused of causing 46 traffic accidents from November 2020 to January this year in Jeonnam, Gwangju, Chungbuk, and other areas, and receiving 600 million won in insurance money from insurance companies.
According to the police investigation, they were found to have involved acquaintances as passengers in the vehicles or used old imported cars in the crimes to inflate the insurance claims.
During the police investigation, they reportedly stated, "The embezzled insurance money was all squandered on gambling and entertainment expenses."
