Gumi-si to Host This Year's Gyeongbuk Province Aerospace Defense Logistics Expo
70+ Domestic and International Companies and Organizations from June 6-8, Exhibition Halls, Seminars, Export Consultations
Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Economic Zone Presents Future Vision for Aviation, Defense, and Logistics Industries
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province will hold the ‘2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do Aviation Defense Logistics Expo’ at GumiCO for three days starting from the 6th.
Co-hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and Gumi City, this expo is supported by the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and the Air Force. It is organized by the Korea Aerospace Industries Association, which also hosts ‘Seoul ADEX,’ the largest aerospace and defense exhibition in Korea.
The opening ceremony on the 6th is expected to be attended by key guests including Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Mayor Kim Jang-ho, Chairman An Ju-chan of the City Council, Air Force Logistics Command Commander Park Chil-ho, Consul General Chen Lebiao of the Chinese Consulate in Busan, and about 1,000 visitors.
This expo will feature participation from over 70 related companies and organizations to promote the activation of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport and the development of related local industries. Various programs will be held including ▲corporate exhibitions and promotions ▲specialized seminars on aviation, defense, and logistics ▲MOUs for industrial cooperation ▲career exploration concerts for students aspiring to related fields ▲and experiential events hosted by affiliated universities.
Domestic and international companies and experts will gather to share the latest technological trends and solutions across the industry. Participating companies and visitors are expected to acquire and share practical information and knowledge, and have opportunities to build new business partnerships with experts from various fields.
Participants include Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), China Southern Airlines (China), Embraer (Brazil), ATR (France), Hanwha Systems, LIG Nex1, Toray Advanced Materials, STX Aero Services, UPS, FedEx, and Sunpeng (China). The Korea Airports Corporation, Korea Testing Laboratory, and Korea Integrated Logistics Association will also participate to collaborate for industrial development.
At the offset trade export consultation meeting, global aerospace companies such as AIRBUS, IAI, SAFRAN, GE Aerospace, and BELL will participate, providing opportunities to help local small and medium-sized enterprises enter overseas markets. Gyeongbuk Province and Gumi City plan to discover promising local SMEs capable of offset trade with leading overseas companies and expand the existing electronics and semiconductor industries into aerospace and defense parts and materials sectors.
Gumi City, which possesses the largest industrial infrastructure in the region, is preparing to advance as a cutting-edge future industry city by leveraging recent selections such as the semiconductor specialized complex and defense innovation cluster. Mayor Kim Jang-ho plans to actively promote Gumi City by hosting an investment briefing and networking luncheon with corporate practitioners on the second day of the event. The city is focusing administrative efforts to ensure the expo is not just a simple exhibition but a meaningful event that attracts real investment and produces tangible results.
Mayor Kim said, “More companies and organizations than expected participated in the inaugural event, adding greater significance. The Aviation Defense Logistics Expo will serve as a platform where technology and innovation meet, enabling participating companies and experts to discover various ideas and solutions.” He expressed expectations that the expo will be an important opportunity to promote continuous development and cooperation in the aviation defense logistics industry.

The city will strive to become the central city of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport economic zone through continuous networking with participating companies. Related projects will be actively promoted, including ▲the ‘Gumi Future City Forum’ to establish future development strategies for Gumi ▲launching the ‘Aviation Industry ThinkNet,’ a cooperative network among companies, universities, affiliated organizations, and local governments in Gyeongbuk Province ▲research service for establishing a basic plan to foster the avionics industry ▲and research service for establishing an aviation logistics industry development strategy. These efforts aim to accelerate the establishment of the economic zone and ecosystem of the new airport scheduled to open in 2030.
