Memorial Rally for Seoi Elementary School Teachers on 'Public Education Recovery Day' in Gyeongnam
On the 4th, the 49th-day memorial of the teacher who passed away at Seoul Seoi Elementary School, which has been called the ‘Day of Restoring Public Education,’ a memorial rally is planned nationwide, and a memorial cultural festival is also scheduled to be held in Gyeongnam.
The Gyeongnam Teachers' Association, the Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union, and the Gyeongnam Teachers' Labor Union will jointly hold a memorial cultural festival in front of the Gyeongnam Office of Education starting at 5 p.m. on the same day to commemorate the 49th-day memorial of the Seoi Elementary School teacher.
According to the organizations, the event is planned to start with a video viewing from 5 p.m. and continue until 6:30 p.m. to avoid disrupting students' classes.
The event will be conducted on a voluntary participation basis, with 18 organizations from the province participating, including the Gyeongnam Branch of the National Health Teachers Union, the Gyeongnam Practical Education Teachers' Group, the Good Teachers Movement Gyeongnam Policy Committee, as well as kindergarten, elementary, and secondary school teachers, principals, and vice principals' organizations.
The memorial festival will take place at the parking lot in front of the central entrance of the Gyeongnam Office of Education and the road in front of the main gate.

Park Jong-hoon, Superintendent of Gyeongnam Education Office, who posted a statement titled “We Must Respond to the Cries of Teachers Calling for the Restoration of the Essence of Education” on the 28th of last month, is also expected to visit the memorial festival.
In the statement, Superintendent Park said, “The current educational field is filled not only with waves of mourning but also with the cries of teachers striving to restore the essence of education,” adding, “Our society must no longer ignore the educational field in crisis.”
He also said, “As an education superintendent, I am doing my best to support educational activities and create schools where the educational community grows together, but I am unable to overcome the limitations of laws and systems,” and “The government, the National Assembly, and all members of society must work together to improve laws and systems and create a school culture where students and teachers grow and coexist together.”

He continued, “I will do my best to respect and protect decisions made through democratic procedures in schools and the individual judgments of teachers,” and “As an education superintendent who respects and loves teachers, I will protect them to the very end.”
