Chilgok Buksam High School 'Sumokwon Team' Wins Grand Prize at the National Youth AI Creativity Competition
Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 4th that the ‘Sumokwon Team’ from Buksam High School won the grand prize, the Minister of Science and ICT Award, at the ‘4th National Youth AI Creative Competition’ held at POSCO DX in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Hosted by POSCO DX and the Intelligent Information Industry Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, this competition is a nationwide event aimed at nurturing core AI talents with creativity and problem-solving skills through idea proposals and project implementation using AI technology for middle and high school students.
The ‘Sumokwon Team’ from Buksam High School (three third-year students) developed an AI robot called ‘Rocket Tube’ that combines Raspberry Pi and artificial intelligence technology to detect drowning when a person falls into water and deliver a life-saving tube, winning the grand prize.
A student from Buksam High School who participated in the competition said, “Since I have always been interested in the AI field and conducted independent and in-depth research alongside my studies, this was a more meaningful and valuable time.”
Buksam High School has operated as a leading school for software (SW) education from 2017 to 2020 to enhance students’ future competencies such as SW and AI, and since 2021, it has been operating as a high school focused on AI convergence education by intensively organizing information subjects and AI convergence subjects in the curriculum.
