Colonel Park Jeong-hoon Arrest Warrant Executed... Opposition Party: "What Are They Trying to Hide?"
Detention Warrant Substantive Hearing Approaches, Military Prosecution Detains
"Ministry of National Defense Intends to Completely Block Media Access"
The opposition party raised their voices, questioning, "What exactly does the Ministry of National Defense want to hide?" after Park Jeong-hoon (Colonel), former head of the Marine Corps Investigation Unit, who was under investigation for the death of the late Corporal Chae Soo-geun of the Marine Corps and was charged with insubordination and other offenses, was forcibly detained after going to the entrance of the military court for a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review).
On the 1st, a warrant review hearing for Park was held at the Military Court in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Initially, Park intended to voluntarily attend the hearing, but during the process of appearing in court, he clashed with the military court officials and was detained by the military prosecution. Park and his legal team refused to attend, demanding that the military court open the entrance that allows direct access to the court building.

So Byung-chul, Park Beom-gye, Park Joo-min, Park Yong-jin, Kim Seung-won, Lee Soo-jin, Choi Kang-wook, and Yoon Joo-byeong ? went to the rear gate of the Ministry of National Defense, where the Central Regional Military Court is located, to protest to the Ministry’s prosecution team. However, the military prosecution rejected their protest and executed the detention warrant, forcibly detaining Park.
In response, Representative Park Joo-min said, "Today, Colonel Park Jeong-hoon went to the military court for the warrant review hearing, but the door that allows direct entry into the military court was locked, and he was ordered to enter through a door passing through the Ministry of National Defense premises," adding, "It appears that the Ministry of National Defense intends to completely block media access."
He continued, "While it is understandable to hold the warrant review hearing behind closed doors, it is unacceptable to block access to the outside of the courtroom entirely, preventing journalists and others from approaching even the entrance."
Representative Park added, "To conduct the warrant review hearing, the detention warrant must be executed, and the accused must be brought to court through the prosecution. However, during the two-hour standoff at the military court entrance, the warrant was not executed. Only after the lawyers and protesting lawmakers raised issues did they hastily and forcefully execute the detention warrant," expressing strong suspicion that "both the content and procedure are full of flaws, and it even seems as if the detention warrant was not prepared from the start."

What exactly are they afraid of?"
Voices of criticism also came from the ruling party. Former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok wrote on his Facebook that day, "It is absurd that a person who has served the country all his life as a uniformed soldier is charged with insubordination and subjected to a detention warrant just for speaking the truth. Seeing the military court door locked from the start, it seems obvious that a proper warrant review will not be conducted," adding, "If the military court does not issue the detention warrant, they will be branded as 'anti-state forces,' so they have no choice."

He continued, "If the military court issues the detention warrant and conducts this trial at the lower court level, and if the Supreme Court, as the higher court, overturns that ruling, the military court will lose its value as a special court," and concluded, "In that case, the military court should be abolished during peacetime."
