About Precautions Against Illegal Currency Exchange Transactions and Voice Phishing Scams
BNK Gyeongnam Bank announced on the 1st that it conducted 'Financial Fraud Prevention Financial Education' for international students.
Choi Young-su, Deputy Manager of the Gyeongnam National University Branch, informed about illegal currency exchange transactions (hawala) and voice phishing scams to about 300 international students at the International Cooperation Hall of Gyeongnam National University on the 31st of last month.

This financial fraud prevention education was specially prepared due to the continuous increase in fraud-utilized accounts through international students.
Kim Yang-sook, Senior Executive Officer (CCO) in charge of financial consumer protection, emphasized, “Except for financial institutions legally authorized to handle foreign currency, exchanging or remitting money through unregistered currency exchangers or exchangers advertising via platforms like ‘WeChat’ is absolutely illegal. If international students unknowingly use these services, they can instantly become criminals.”
She added, “We hope that this financial fraud prevention education will be helpful to international students. We plan to continue providing financial education to reduce and prevent financial fraud damage among international students.”
