Hong Changnam Appointed as the First Director of the World Heritage International Interpretation Center
Carrying Out Activities to Protect and Promote Understanding of World Heritage
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 1st that Hong Changnam, former head of the Safety and Disaster Prevention Research Office at the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, has been appointed as the inaugural director of the UNESCO World Heritage International Interpretation and Explanation Center. The term of office is three years, until August 31, 2026.
Director Hong previously served in various roles at the Cultural Heritage Administration, including Head of the Natural Monuments Division, Legal Audit Officer, Head of the Safety Standards Division, and Planning and Finance Officer. He is recognized for combining high expertise and insight through diverse policy research and experience in the national heritage sector.

The UNESCO World Heritage International Interpretation and Explanation Center was established in January 2022 based on the "Special Act on the Preservation, Management, and Utilization of World Heritage." It carries out various activities aimed at protecting and enhancing understanding of world heritage through inclusive heritage interpretation and explanation.
