Busan City Holds 'Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony'
1st Day 1:30 PM City Hall, Award Ceremony for Meritorious Persons, Gender Equality Talk, Performance, and Celebration Concert
Busan City will hold the ‘Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony’ at 1:30 PM on the 1st in the City Hall Auditorium to mark Gender Equality Week (9.1.?9.7.).
Gender Equality Week is held annually under the ‘Framework Act on Gender Equality’ to raise public awareness of women’s social participation and gender equality, and to promote a culture of gender equality.
This year, under the theme ‘BIG Equality: Busan’s Bold Imagination Toward Gender Equality,’ a variety of events will be presented.
The event will be attended by about 500 people including Deputy Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon, Special Advisor on Women’s Affairs Song Sook-hee, City Council Chairperson Ahn Sung-min, Superintendent of Education Ha Yoon-soo, as well as local women leaders, women’s organizations, and general citizens. The program includes ▲ congratulatory performances ▲ awards for contributors to gender equality ▲ gender equality talk ‘BIG Voice’ ▲ card section performance, among others.
The awards for contributors to gender equality will be given in three categories. The Busan Women’s Award will be presented to 2 recipients, the Gender Equality Contribution Award to 18 recipients, and the Employment Equality Model Award to 2 recipients, all receiving commendations from the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City.
At the gender equality talk ‘BIG VOICE,’ participants ranging from teenagers to people in their 50s, including children, youth, and middle-aged generations, will have a time of communication about gender equality.
Various side events will also be held to celebrate Gender Equality Week. Diverse events such as district-level Gender Equality Week ceremonies, special lectures, campaigns, exhibitions, and performances aimed at spreading a culture of gender equality will take place throughout Busan.
▲ Gender Equality Multi-Contest (7.17.?9.4., Busan Women’s Organizations Council) ▲ Women’s Rights Festival in Busan (9.9., Busan Women’s Solidarity Conference) ▲ Gender Equality Webtoon Festival (9.1.?9.9., Busan Women’s News) ▲ Gender Equality Theater (9.1.?9.27., Joeun Theater) will be held.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will recognize 12 individuals and 5 organizations who have contributed to promoting gender equality among institutions, organizations, public officials, and the general public, awarding them government honors at the Ministry’s ‘Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony (9.1.).’ Busan City has been selected as a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Commendation.

Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “We ask for the active interest and participation of citizens in the performances, exhibitions, and other events prepared for Gender Equality Week,” adding, “I hope this Gender Equality Week will serve as an opportunity to raise citizens’ awareness of gender equality and to spread a culture of gender equality in our society.”
