On the 31st, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions announced that it recently acquired the 'RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances)' certification from the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), proving its capability to manage hazardous substances necessary for solar module production.
RoHS is a regulation that restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products, medical devices, surveillance and control equipment, among others. It has been enforced by the European Union since July 2006 to reduce risks to human health and the environment during waste landfill, incineration, and recycling processes.
To obtain RoHS certification, the content of a total of 10 hazardous substances, including lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg), in each component of the product must be between 0.01% and less than 0.1%. In Korea, the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) handles the certification process.
Although RoHS certification is not yet mandatory for exporting solar modules to Europe, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions has proactively acquired the RoHS certification as the first in the domestic industry to respond to the global trend of tightening restrictions on the use and disposal of hazardous substances.
An official from HD Hyundai Energy Solutions stated, "Reflecting market demands for corporate eco-friendly activities, we obtained RoHS certification for our solar products," adding, "We will strive to establish ourselves as a global company by leading the development of technologies that are safe for both humans and the environment, beyond just providing high-quality products."
