Musk Investigated by US Prosecutors for Allegedly Using Company Funds to Build a House
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is under investigation by the U.S. federal prosecutors and financial authorities amid controversy over allegations that he misappropriated company funds to build a glass residence for himself.
On the 30th (local time), the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources, reported that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York recently requested Tesla to submit information regarding the funding and execution of the related project.
Tesla is reportedly conducting a confidential project to construct a special glass structure near its headquarters in Austin, Texas. Named "Project 42," the plan is to build a residence for CEO Musk, who is suspected of deploying Tesla’s personnel and resources for this purpose.
The prosecutors have requested information on whether Tesla provided benefits to CEO Musk related to the project, as well as details on expenditures and their purposes.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has also launched an investigation into whether Tesla violated disclosure obligations concerning the project. According to U.S. regulations, publicly traded companies must disclose transactions exceeding $120,000 (approximately 160 million KRW) involving related parties, including executives.
