Gyeonggi-do Urges Swift Decision on Line 5 Extension to Gimpo Proposal
Gyeonggi Province has urged the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee to promptly decide on the extension plan for Subway Line 5.
On the 18th, Gyeonggi Province submitted the extension plan for Subway Line 5, reflecting the opinions of Gimpo City, to the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee. However, on the 30th, it was announced that the committee has not made a final decision because Incheon City has yet to submit its plan.
Originally, the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee planned to announce the final extension route plan for Subway Line 5 at the end of August, following a review process by an evaluation team on the 21st based on the routes submitted by local governments. However, the decision has been delayed due to the absence of Incheon City's route plan.
Gu Ja-gun, Director of the Railway Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "Incheon City must promptly finalize its position and submit the final route plan to the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee. For the residents suffering from the Gimpo Gold Line, a reasonable final route must be decided as soon as possible to begin construction."

Gyeonggi Province stated that even after the route decision, a considerable period will be required for reflecting the plan in higher-level railway plans such as the Metropolitan Transportation Implementation Plan, conducting preliminary feasibility studies, basic planning, design, and construction, so a prompt decision on the route is necessary.
